Marcel Holds

Marcel Detienne (born in 1935 in Belgium) is a Helléniste and a Belgian author, essay writer, comparative Anthropologue, specialist in particular in the old Greece.

He settles with Paris in the the Sixties and meets Jean-Pierre Vernant there. Starting from 1964, it codirige the Research center compared on the old companies with the practical School of the high studies. Named directing of studies in religious sciences in 1975, it chairs a group of research of CNRS, “History and anthropology, approaches comparative”, until 1996. He is currently professor at the department of traditional studies of the Université Johns-Hopkins in Baltimore, and codirige the Center Louis-Sailor of comparative studies. Graduate of the University of Liege (ULg), he is director of studies to the École of the high studies in social sciences. Its seminars in ULg, ULB and UCL related to “the gods of the policy in the Greek cities”. It was titular Francqui inter-University pulpit on a purely foreign basis in 2002-2003 ().
