Marcel Gagnon (January 17th 1928 with Saint-Brace, Quebec -) is a Biologiste Québécois. He carried out a career of researcher, leader and leader in the bio-food field in Canada.

Biography

He obtains a baccalaureat be-arts with the Séminaire of Rimouski in 1949. He continues his studies to obtain a baccalaureat in sciences of the Université Laval, then a control in food sciences of the Université of Massachusetts and finally a doctorate of the same university.

From 1950 to 1955, he is biologist with the Département of the maritime fisheries of Quebec and with the Fisheries Research Board. Instructor of research and assistant-professor of research in food sciences of the University of Massachusetts of 1955 to 1958. In 1958, he becomes research director and of development in food industry, then directing of production at Alphonse Raymond Ltée where he reaches the head office in 1965. Vice-president of the operations at the Food R.J. Reynolds Ltée in 1968. In 1970, he is vice-rector with planning and the development with UQAM. Since 1972, originator and director of the Research center in sciences applied to the food (CRESALA) for UQAM and since 1982, it always occupies the same function with CRESALA under the aegis of the Institut Armand-Frappier.

Doctor Gagnon is the innovator of the development of food products the such fine cheeses and the aperitifs containing apple cider. He is also contributor with the preventive medicine by the development of a catalasemeter for the detection of infections of microbial origin and by the production of cases of immunological diagnosis; by the detection of toxins in the moulds and pathogenic bacteria in food.

Originator and founder of the Center of irradiation of Canada, a single infrastructure in the world, it carried out a career of researcher, leader and leader in the bio-food field. The techniques of conservation of food by irradiation on the spot contribute to the growth of bio-food industry in Canada, but also in the countries in the process of development, by allowing the import and the export of food without risk of contamination for the environment of the countries and the health of their population.

Doctor Gagnon is the founder of the Association of the manufacturers of food products of Quebec and the Council of the foodstuffs. He occupied the presidency and the vice-presidency of several organizations and he is member of several scientific companies and carried out several missions abroad.

He is the author of several works and many scientific publications. In May 1987, he is the member elect of the Prix Joseph-Armand-Bomber (Technological innovation) decreed by ACFAS.
