Marcel Chaput

Marcel Chaput (October 14th, 1918 in Quebec - January 19th, 1991 in Quebec) is a Québécois politician and scientist. He is a founder of the Rassemblement for national independence.

Gatinois of origin, it works as civil servant/chemist with the Ministry for the National defense of Canada. He deplores the absence of French in his and writing work environment of the articles in the Duty to protest. He is a former member of the Ordre of Jacques-Cartier.

He founds the RIN in September 1960 and becomes his vice-president. Chaput publishes Why I am separatist the following year. Like the law of the State prohibits the civils servant to occupy of the political offices, it is suspended in November and it resigns in December.

As the RIN was not recorded yet like political party, it decides to be presented of independent to the election of 1962, but it east demolishes in its attempt. Guy Pouliot replaces it with the head of the RIN but it founds the Republican party of Quebec, an effort which ends up falling through. It returns with the RIN in 1965 under the leadership of Pierre Bourgault and is again beaten with the election of 1966.

Member of the Left Québécois, it must yield the nomination to Robert Burns in Maisonneuve in 1970 and it fails last once the Québécois election of 1973.
