Marcel Baudot

Marcel Baudot , born in 1902 and died in 1992, was a historian French. He was also chief of the French Forces of the interior of the the Eure in 1944.

Graduate of the School of the charters in 1925, it is named with the departmental records of the Eure which it will direct during twenty-three years. The diversity and the sum of its work on the Normandy and the department of the Eure in particular make in it a specialist recognized in the history Norman.

As of 1940, it enters in resistance to fight against the worst danger run by our humanistic and Christian civilization . Its action starts within the network " Release-Nord" under the name of " Beaumanoir" ; in 1941, he becomes chief of the network of information " Cohors Asturies" for the Eure; in 1943, it is named military chief of the Secret Army for the department under the name of " Breteuil" , then, in June 1944, chief of the French Forces of the interior of the Eure. October 8th, 1944, it receives the De Gaulle general with Évreux.

It is devoted to the History of Resistance and the Second world war, exerting a great influence there, in particular as a secretary of the Commission of history of the Resistance and the Committee of history of the Second world war. Among his various work and works, one counts:

  • the Public opinion under the occupation (PUF, 1960);
  • Release of Normandy (Hatchet, 1974);
  • Release of Brittany (Hatchet, 1974);
  • the Encyclopedia of the War 1939-1945 (Casterman, 1977).

It is named general inspector of the files of France in 1948.
