Marcel Baker , born with Sherbrooke the December 15th 1946, is a genealogist, lecturer and author of a score of publications and an about sixty articles in history and genealogy, recognized expert in these fields as well in France and elsewhere in Europe as with the Canada.

After its studies with Montreal, it entered to the service of the government of the Quebec in 1970, of which with the National library of Quebec (with Montreal), of 1992 to 2002, year of its retirement. It resides at Longueuil since 1974.

Parallel to his community activities, Marcel Fournier was interested in the history of the Quebec.

Today considered, from its work, like a specialist in the study of the genealogy in Quebec, Marcel Fournier presented several communications and conferences to Quebec, in France and Europe on the history of the settlement in Canada.

Publications

Marcel Fournier starts by publishing, of 1972 to 1977, four monographs on the area of Lanaudière in Quebec.

In 1978, it directs its research towards the history of our origins. In May 1981, it publishes its biographical Dictionnaire of the Bretons in News-France , a work extremely appreciated of the genealogists Québécois and French.

This re-examined and increased work leads it to the publication in 1987, by the Company of genealogy of Quebec, of the book the Bretons in North America, of the origins with 1770 , a study of 422 pages which identifies all the pioneers of Breton stock established in North America.

At the beginning of May 1989, Marcel Fournier publishes in the Editions of the River (of Montreal), a new work Europeans with the Canada, origins with 1765 . This study of 350 pages presents the whole of the immigrants come from Europe except France, of the beginnings of the News-France until the Conquest and during the first years of the British Mode.

In 1992, Marcel Baker present at the historians and the genealogists his work Of the New England to the News-France , a book of 282 pages published by the genealogical Company Canadian-Frenchwoman. This study tells the tormented history of the Anglo-American prisoners to the Canada between 1675 and 1760.

Always in the search of new subjects, it publishes, in April 1995, with the Editions of the North (of Quebec) and Christian with Paris, a main work: French in Quebec 1765-1865, a migratory movement ignored : a study which reports the history of French immigration during the century which followed the Conquest. This work was honoured with three prices in Histoire and Généalogie.

In December 1997, it makes appear with the Editions of the genealogical Company Canadian-Frenchwoman, of Rennes in France, a masterly work having for title the Breton ones in America Frenchwoman 1504-2004 .

Functions

From 1984 to 1989, he is national vice-president of the Association Quebec-France.

Since 1985, it gives courses of Généalogie near public several institutions of the area of Montreal.

From 1995 to 1997, it chairs the Québécois Committee of the Congress of Bourges which will ensure the participation of Quebec, as guest of honor, the 14th congress of the French federation of genealogy.

From 1997 to 2003, he is member of the board of directors of the Québécois Federation of the companies of genealogy.

Since 1998, Marcel Fournier coordinates, in Quebec, the French and Quebec research Project on the family origins from the French emigrants and abroad established in Canada of the origins at 1865, which continues the update and the development of the Fichier Origin.

From 1999 to 2007, he is president of the genealogical Company Canadian-Frenchwoman.

Since 2006, it directs the Project Montcalm, a vast study on the soldiers of the French troops sent in News-France at the time of the Seven Year old war (1755-1760). -   Objectives of this co-operative project Quebec-France, launched in October 2006 by the SGCF
