Marcel-François Astier
Marcel-François Astier , usually called Marcel Astier, is a French politician born on January 7th, 1885 with Privas (Ardèche) and died on September 21st, 1947 with Are (even department).
Wire of the deputy François Astier, Marcel-François Astier makes studies of medicine (until the Doctorat) and of right (until the license). He exploits then the family vineyard and militates in the republican agricultural trade unionism. He becomes thus president of the departmental Company of encouragement to agriculture, then member of the Superior council of agriculture, and member of the National committee of Sériciculture.
He elected official mayor of, then, in 1924, is appointed (radical) of Ardeche on a list of Cartel of the lefts (radical and socialist), but seat within the group of the Radical left, emanation parliamentary of the independent Radicaux, close to the center. From 1924 to 1925, he is Member of the Commission of Agriculture and the commission of Drinks. He is draftsman of an opinion of the law extending the law of 1898 on the industrial accidents to the farms. From 1926 to 1927, it belongs to the committee of supply, while continuing to carry its interest on the agricultural questions. Beaten in 1928, after the re-establishment of the majority poll of district, he is elected senator ten years later.
July 10th, 1940, it is among the eighty members of Parliament who vote against the full powerss with Philippe Pétain. He pronounces this famous word then: “The Republic Lives nevertheless! ” It engages then in the Résistance and reconstitutes, in clandestinity, the Radical party ardéchois. It joined London in 1943. November 7th of this year, it enters to the provisional Consultative Assembly. He becomes president of the commission of Agriculture, and takes part in the projects for rural France according to the Release. He also takes part in work aiming at organizing the public authorities after the allied unloadings.
Candidate with the constituent National Assembly, his list does not obtain enough voice to be elected. He withdraws political life then and dies in his residence.
