Marc Steckar
Marc Steckar is a musician multi-instrumentalist, born in 1935 with Cherbourg (50).
Studies
Its first instrument is the Violoncelle, which it begins at the eight years age. Then he works the Trompette with Maître Sabarich as a listener of the class of the Conservatoire higher national of music of Paris during three years, in company of Maurice André. In 1953, it leaves the trumpet for the Trombone and enters with the CNSM the class of Maître Lafosse in 1956.As from 1957, it makes a pause in its musical studies because of the Guerre of Algeria. On its return in 1959, it obtains a second price of trombone.
From 1959 to 1970: the trombone
He plays then in the following orchestras:
- the Big Band of Benny Simpleton, in company of Michel Portal, Yvan Julien and Pierre Thibault
- the Orchestra of Aime Barelli with the Casino of Monte Carlo and the Olympia where it accompanies Marlène Dietrich, Nat King Cole in Olympia. In 1960, it will carry out a European round.
- the Orchestra of Paul Mauriat where it accompanies Charles Aznavour
- Big Band by Daniel Janin, in 1961 in Olympia where it accompage Edith Piaf, Jacques Brel, Gilbert Bécaud, Sammy Davis Jr.…
In 1964, he plays six months with the Moulin-Rouge and records for (Michel Legrand, Vladimir Cosma) and of many high-speed motorboats of the French song.

- in the emission “Midday on your premise” every midday with Jacques Martin
- in the emission “The dancing” on Antenne2 with Big Band of Bob Quibel.
In 1968, it carries out a round the world tour with Charles Aznavour.
From 1970 to 1981: the tuba
In 1970, while playing of the trombone to the Casino of Paris in the reviews of Small Roland with Zizi Jeanmaire, he learns as an autodidact the tuba, instrument of which he became one of the best specialists. He will then start to record more and more with the Tuba like with the bass trombone.
By 1973 to 1983, it accompanies Claude Nougaro with Eddie Louis and Maurice Vander and takes part in Big Band of Martial Solal.
Marc Steckar recorded more than 20 discs around the Tuba and played in all the great jazz festivals.
From 1991 with today: euphonium
In 1981, it forms the Steckar Tubapack, group with which it always plays. The group is composed of 2 euphoniums, 2 tubas and battery. Steckar Tubapack will also on the occasion to play with Michel Portal and Jazz festival of Jakarta (Indonesia) in 1988. One could found Steckar Tubapack in 1992 during creation “92 with Any Wind” under the Arch of the Defense where they played with 2500 musicians of harmony (ordering of the ministry for the Culture). The unit will play with some of the best French sandhogs: Michel Godard, Didier Havet, Christian Jous, Daniel Landreat, Philippe Legris and François Thuillier
In 1984, it forms “Elephant Tuba Horde Big Band” composed of euphoniums, Saxhorns and tubas.
As from 1990, it devotes the writing:
- compositions mixing euphoniums and tubas with Choruses, orchestras of harmony, big band, battery brass band, Breton Bagad.
- writing of concertos for euphonium, tuba, trombone, trumpet, bass trombone, quartet of trombones, quartet of Clarinet S, quintet of trumpets, always accompanied by an orchestra by harmony.
- Euphony , one of these concertos for euphonium at summer created for Ivan Milhiet in 1984 with the Orchestra of Harmony of the Harbor.
- Celtophonie in 1994 for the Festival interceltic of Lorient with Tubapack, together of coppers and bagad of Quimperlé. Concert, film and CD: Celtophonie bagadapack .
- Fezzy at the village brass band , musical tale for voice of children and brass band.
One could see it in the film Tubapassion the 52 minutes in 2001, which was carried out by the Muzzik television channel.
August 9th, 2003, he played with Lorient Celting Pot with euphoniums, tubas, coppers, bagad and percussions.
After having been multi instrumentalist, Marc has fixed himself for a few years on euphonium.
Rewards
- In 1982, it obtains the price Boris Vian with Steckar Tubapack, decreed by the Academy of Jazz.
- In 1999, it obtains a price of the composition of SACEM: price Pierre and Germaine Labole. It is for its overflowing, generous activity and generator of a renewal convenient and right of a repertory attaching and badly known that the SACEM wished to thank Marc Steckar by allotting this price to him.
