Career

Marc Rosset was an atypical player on the circuit ATP. From its physique, its play, its character and its made results of succession of blows of glares and against-performances.

Thanks to its big size - it measures 2 m 02 - Rosset is equipped with a powerful service. This blow was, with its right blow, the bases of its play carried towards the attack.

The best season of Rosset was 1992. During this one, it gains in particular the gold medal with the Olympic Games of Barcelona into simple, Roland-Garros in double (with Jakob Hlasek) and is finalist of the Coupe Davis with the Suisse (demolished 3-1 against the USA).

Rosset is known for its outspokenness and its whole character which did not always rain with the journalists who qualified it “large mouth”. This character plays to him some nasty tricks as at the time of the Hopman Cup 1996 when it breaks the wrist by striking an advertizing cover of rage!

Rosset put officially fine at its career in October 2005 at the conclusion of the tournament of Basle, after five last difficult seasons. It gained 15 titles into simple (obtained on all surfaces and three decades different) and 8 titles in double. It appeared during 12 consecutive years (1989-2000) among the 100 best players of the world, including 11 years in signal 50. Moreover it has in its table of hunting the scalp of 14 world numbers 1 (Connors, Lendl, Wilander, Edberg, Becker, Courier, Sampras, Agassi, Muster, Moya, Kafelnikov, Rafter, Safin and Federer).

Anecdote

The career and especially the life of Rosset failed to end tragically the September 2nd 1998. This day, the Genevese, which had just lost with the 1st turn of the US Open, was to return in Suisse on board the flight New York - Geneva SR-111 of Swissair. But it misses the plane. This one will be damaged later at broad Canadian coasts without there being of survivor among the 229 people who were on board.
