Marc Fumaroli
Marc Fumaroli is a historian and essay writer and French academician, born with Marseilles the June 10th 1932.
Biography
Marc Fumaroli was elected professor with the Collège de France in 1986 and was responsible for conference on “Rhetoric and company in Europe (XVIe-XVIIe centuries)”.In 1991, in the cultural State whose title was included in that of the work of Jacques Donzelot, the stimulating State , it develops a very firm criticism of the Politique cultural Frenchwoman which is enracinerait in the Régime of Vichy, through André Malraux, to reach its apogee in Jack Lang.
He is elected with the French Academy in 1995 with armchair 6, succeeding Eugene Ionesco.
In 1996, Marc Fumaroli was elected president of the Company of the Friends of Louvre.
Since 1997, Marc Fumaroli is broad Professor At of the Université of Chicago under Department off Languages Lovesong and Committee one Social Thought. Since 2002 within the framework of his Foundation for the Republic of the Letters, Marc Fumaroli constituted with the Collège de France a scientific team of young researchers charged to work on the role and the influence of the Count de Caylus in the history of the French art of the 18th century. Three historians of art, prosecutor of work in this field, were thus named prizes winner of the international Stock Exchange Balzan: Xavier Dufestel, Cordélia Hattori and Nicola Iodice. From 2002 to 2005, in addition to important and meticulous information retrieval, this work led to the scientific publication of discovered bust and medallion then painted portrait of the count de Caylus by Xavier Dufestel.
Since 2003, Marc Fumaroli is professor emeritus at the Collège de France.
By decree of the bearing October 2nd, 2006 nomination to the presidency of the general Commission of terminology and neology, Marc Fumaroli was appointed president of this commission, to replace Mr. Gabriel de Broglie, of the French Academy, for the term of the office remaining to be run (OJ of the 03-10-2006, p. 14632, text n° 21).
