Marc-Vivien Foé
Marc-Vivien Foé (1 {{er}} May 1975 - June 26th 2003) was a Football Cameronian or.
Born with Nkolo with the Cameroun, Foé began its career with the club of the Canon Yaounde. After the World cup of 1994, Foé joined the French team of RC Lens, and took part in the conquest of the first championship of the club in 1998. Its excellent season under the shirt of Bloods and Or had been worth to him to be selected for the World cup, but a fracture of the leg deprived it of most prestigious of the competitions of football. He then played in England, to West Ham United then returns to France under the colors of the Olympique Lyonese, with which he gained the Coupe of the League in 2001 then the Championnat of France in 2002 and goes back outremanche to Manchester City. He played with his national team, the Untameable Lions, since 1993, at the time of a match against the Mexico.
The June 26th 2003, during the Cut of the Confederations of FIFA, Foé collapsed on the ground of the Stade of Gerland of Lyon during a match against the Colombia. Transported at the hospital, he died at the end of 30 minutes (This kind of death reproduces one year later for the player Miklos Fehér and four years later for Antonio Puerta). An autopsy determined that death originated in a consecutive heart attack with a congenital malformation (cardiac hypertrophy). This abrupt death caused much emotion at the Cameronians but also at their adversaries finally, the France, whose many players knew and appreciated “Marco”.
Several homages were paid to Foé. The English club Manchester City withdrew its number 23, the Olympique Lyonese as well as RC Lens withdrew as for them the number 17 their respective manpower. Other homages off include the baptism of part of the stage City Manchester Stadium with its name. To the Stage Felix-Bollaert, an avenue bears its name, and a wall paints represents it him and Africa (lion, tree…). It is registered there “a lion never dies, it sleeps. ”.
