Marathon of Paris

The Marathon of Paris is a pedestrian race of 42,195 km borrowing each year since 1976 the streets of Paris. It is one of the most important marathon S in the world by the number of the participants. It is a relatively fast marathon by times which are carried out there, less however than its counterpart of Berlin for example, the fault at a second part of course a little more difficult than the first (traced into force in 2005).

The first marathon run to Paris was that of the July 18th 1896, a few days after that of the Olympic Games of Athens. The British Len Hurst gained the test in front of 190 other competitors.

Retrospective

The course

Since 2005, the course is entirely located on Right Bank and within the administrative limits of Paris:
  • historical axis: Fields-Élysées, street of Rivoli, places Bastille, places Nation
  • buckles several kilometers in the Bois of Vincennes
  • return by the street of Charenton (half of the course) then the quays of Right Bank to the bridge of Bir-Hakeim
  • outer loop in the Bois de Boulogne and arrived on the Foch avenue.

The edition 2005

The marathon of Paris 2005 took place the April 10th 2005. 35.000 runners were registered with this marathon.

Women

To note that the first Frenchwoman, Corinne Raux, arrived at the 5th place with a time of 2:28 min 47s, passing very close to the record of France of Chantal Dallenbach (2h 28min 28s, established on April 7th, 2002 in Paris) 19 seconds only.

In category Handisport, the marathon was gained by Ernst Van Dyck (South Africa) in 1:32 min 17s.

The edition 2006

The 30e edition of the marathon of Paris took place the April 9th 2006.

Men

Women

The Frenchwoman Zaia Dahmani, victim of cramps due to the Dehydration, has to be satisfied with one 6th place in 2:31 mn 34s whereas it aimed at the record of France.

The first participant handisport is like the previous year Ernst Van Dyck (South Africa) in 1:34 mn.

The edition 2007

The marathon of Paris 2007 took place the April 15th 2007. 35.000 runners were registered with this marathon, but only 28.261 competitors took the departure. They will be nothing any more but 26.982 on arrival.

Men

Among French, Amhed Ezzobayry arrives 8th with a time of 2:11 mn 18s. Brahim Lalhafi, for its first Marathon, finishes 13th in 2:15 mn 09s.

Women

To note that the Frenchwoman Christelle Daunay also took part it for the first time in a marathon.

In handisport, it is Kurt Fearnley which gains the race in 1:30 mn 45s.

Times carried out are exceptional taking into account unusual heat on the course this day.
