Maracaibo is the larger second Ville of the Venezuela, after Caracas, and is the capital of the State de Zulia. The economy of the city is based especially on the production of Pétrole which one finds in abundance at the bottom of the Lac Maracaibo.
Maracaibo, which was baptized in 1571 Nueva Zamora with its foundation by the Spanish colonists, always shelters a large district dating from the colonial time.
Population
Maracaibo is the second plus big city of Venezuela. It counted: 1200000 inhabitants in 2005. It is with the head of an important agglomeration, called “ Urban surface of Maracaibo ”. The latter had: 2600000 inhabitants the same year.
