Maquis of the Limousin
The maquis of the the Limousin was one of largest and active maquis of France.
This area was deeply marked by 99 hung Tulle the June 9th 1944 and the Massacre of Oradour-on-Glane the June 10th 1944 following the unloading in Normandy and with the passage of the division S Das Reich in Corrèze and High-Vienna. In the same way, this maquis was disturbed by constant antagonisms between the maquis A.S. and F.T.P as for the modes of actions (in particular with Tulle and Guéret), with the distribution of the local authorities to the Release in August 1944 like with the extent of purification.
Directed for the plain Movements of Resistance by Gontran Royer, the most known persons in charge of the Limousin maquis were Edmond Michelet, André Malraux, Georges Guingouin or Roger Lescure, Louis Lemoigne, Rene Vaujour, Marius Guedin and their comrades martyrs Jacques Renouvin, André Delon, Martial Brigouleix, Raymond Farro, Florentin Gourmelen
Directed since the area of Brive-the-Strapping woman then of Limoges, this maquis was divided into several principal sectors:
- maquis ACE of Low-Corrèze (Brive), Average-Corrèze (Tulle) and High-Corrèze (Neuvic - Custom)
- maquis ftp between Corrèze and the Dordogne
- maquis ACE Creusois (Guéret)
- maquis ftp the Limousin (Saint-Gilles-the-Forests)
It is also advisable to note the considerable activity deployed by the body-francs in Low-Corrèze and the intelligence agents on the whole of the area, in particular by Rene Jugie-Gao or André Girard on behalf of the network Alliance whose Abbé Lair was with Tulle one of most beautiful and courageous figures.
