Maquis of Rieumes

In 1942, the Examining magistrate of Low wall, Andre Reboul, sets up with some patriots the group which in 1944 will become the Maquis of Rieumes.

In 1943, the group is reinforced and is joined inter alia by Jules Delattre, captain reprocessed of the Air force, which will become the Commander of the Maquis of Rieumes and by Rieumois: Doctor Robert Roger (Doctor Captain of reserve), Doctor Charles Chwartz (Doctor Lieutenant of reserve), Jean Lécussan (reprocessed Chief warrant officer of the Army). The year 1943 is devoted to recruitment, the formation, the organization of the teams in the villages of the cantons of Auterive, of Carbonne, Muret and Rieumes.

In 1944, the events accelerate following the parachutings announced by Radio London, a deposit of weapons is made up in Rieumes. June 1st " Sirs, made your plays " , this message announces the setting in alarm. June 5th, two other messages " the father the Cherry is varnished " and " Veronese was a painter " announce the unloading in Normandy. In the night, the formed groups join the wooded area of Rieumes, they are divided into three companies including one based in the Forêt of Lautignac-Savères. At the end of June, the device is reduced because Reboul judge joined the irregular force Pommiès with 200 men.

June 8th, 1944: Sabotage of phone lines in the cantons of Rieumes and Carbon.
June 10th, 1944: Sabotage of shuntings and pylons HT to Noah.
June 11th, 1944: Sabotage of shuntings and pylons HT to Low wall.
June 12th, 1944: Destruction of underground gas pipelines with Carbonne.

June 14th, 1944: Sabotage of pylons HT to Fauga.
June 15th, 1944: Sabotage of shuntings and pylons HT to Longages.
June 16th, 1944: Knack on a fuel depot on the aerodrome of Francazal.
June 29th, 1944: Sabotage of shuntings and pylons HT, destruction of a water pumping station for the engines with vapor with Muret.
July 2nd, 1944: Destruction of control panels the SNCF, sabotage of the railway, destruction of phone lines with Muret.
July 14th, 1944: Deposit of a sheaf to the war memorial and ravelled in the towns of Rieumes and Muret.
July 15th, 1944: German ambush (death of the Lieutenant Roger CABE, person in charge of the section destruction)

on July 17th, with 6:00 of the morning 4 bombers JU 88 attack and pour their bombs on the part of the forest in the direction of Sajas but the maquis occupies the other end (see plane). Part of the forest will take fire.

About midday, a white cloth is posed by Berthe on the pre one of the " Rougeat" , it is the signal of the arrival of German by the road. The column includes/understands 2 front tractions, 6 trucks, a Auto-mitrailleuse, an ambulance and 200 men approximately. The engagements will last 3 hours and will make a score of victims among the German troops. Towards 15:00, threatened of surrounding the Maquis which did not have a casualty, folds up itself towards Montastruc Savès. (See plane).

July 20th, 1944: Installation of the Maquis in the forest of Fabas

The Maquis will continue its action until the release of Low wall on August 20th, 1944.

A Stele of thanks to the populations of Savères and Lautignac is set up in edge of the forest.
