Maple of Montpellier
The maple of Montpellier ( Acer monspessulanum L.) is a plant of the family of the Sapindaceae (formerly generally classified in that of the Aceraceae ) which one especially meets in the Mediterranean regions. It belongs to the section Monspessulanum of the Classification of the maples.
Description
It is a shrub or a small tree with sunk bark, the null and void sheets, with 3 whole lobes, dark green shining above, with the flowers yellow-greenish, the fruits (disamares) with practically parallel wings. It pushes in the maquis and the Garrigue S, where it is often associated with the Holm oak. In autumn, its sheets take red colors which make it very spectacular. The tree can live up to 120 years.
