Maphrien
The title of Maphrien is a specific title of the orthodoxe syriaque Église. It was initially carried by the primacy of the Église jacobite of Mésopotamie (between 629 and 1859). It is currently carried by the primacy of the orthodoxe Église syro-malankare.
Maphrien of the East
The title of maphrien was established in 629 for the primacy of the orthodoxe syriaque Église of Mésopotamie which carried until there the title of Métropolite of the East and which taken then the title of Maphrien and Catholicos of the East . Devoted by the patriarch of Antioche, it profited from a great autonomy in the administration of its jurisdiction. It to have the capacity to name, devote, transfer and deposit the bishops. Maphrien of India
The title of maphrien was restored in 1964 at the time of a synod joined together with Kottayam for the primacy of the orthodoxe Église syro-malankare, the branch of the Church malankare remained in the dependence of the orthodoxe syriaque Church of Antioche, under the formulation of Maphrien and Catholicos of the East initially, then since 2002 under the formulation of Maphrien and Catholicos of India .
