Joan Manuel Serrat I Teresa (born the December 27th 1943 with Barcelona) is one of largest the Catalan song writer and performer and Spanish.

He is the son of a Catalan and Aragonese, being thus a xarnego . March 15th, 2006, it received the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Madrid for its contribution to the cultures Spanish and Catalan. It obtains then the Gold medal of the Merit to Work for the whole of its career.

April 18th, 2006, Serrat leaves a new disc (" Mô" , abbreviation of the name of the town of Mahon, capital of the Spanish island of Minorque, where the singer has a house and spends the summers) of songs as a Catalan. It has been about its first production in this language for 17 years. Serrat then undertakes a promotional tour of its disc in all Spain.

In 2007, the newspaper " El Periódico de Catalunya" publish a collection " Serrat Personal" of 16 discs chosen by Manual Joan Serrat and with texts written by him to present these discs and the people who took part in it. It organizes moreover one new round, with the singer Joaquin Sabina, entitled Dos pajaros of a tiro . And in 2007 also the title of Knight of the Légion of honor of the French Republic received.
