Manual Andrés López Obrador
Andrés Manuel López Obrador , born the November 13rd 1953 with Macuspana in the State de Tabasco (Mexico) is a Mexican Politician. He is called AMLO , his initial. He was member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI, center) before integrating in 1988 the Partido of Revolución Democrática (PRD, left) of which he will be the president of the August 2nd 1996 with the April 10th 1999. He exerted the function of head of government of the Federal District (Mexico City) of December 2000 to July 2005 and was candidate with the presidential election of July 2nd, 2006.
The PRI and the Partido Acción Nacional (SIDE, right-hand side) tried to raise its Immunité of chief of the government of the Federal District in 2005 because of a non-observance of a court order within the framework of its load. The goal was to deprive it of the right to arise to the supreme office. In front of the outcry and the rise of popularity of AMLO caused by the operation, the instigators went into reverse.
López Obrador was candidate with the presidential election of July 2nd, 2006 to the head of the coalition Por el of todos (For the good of all) carried out well by the PRD. The official results of the election, currently disputed in front of the electoral Federal court by AMLO, give it loser of 0,6% behind the candidate of the SIDE Felipe Calderón. The decision of the court is awaited for the September 6th 2006 at the latest.
Mexican Elections of 2006
The July 6th 2006, according to the calculation of IFE (Electoral Federal Institute), Felipe Calderón would gain the presidential election with 35,88% of the voices, in front of Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador, candidate of the coalition For the Good of All (PRD-PT-Convergence), which would add up 35,31%. Only the TEPJF (Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation) is entitled to validate the result on September 6th. But before, on August 31st, it will return its decision (without call) on the recourse of nonconformity. At July 13rd, 359 recourse of nonconformity were introduced in front of the court, 227 presented by the coalition For the Good of All (PRD-PT-Convergence), 131 by the SIDE and 1 by Alliance for Mexico (PRI-PVEM).
Several governments nevertheless congratulated Calderón: the Canada, the Chile, the Colombia, the Spain, the the United States and the the United Kingdom.
According to observers of the European Union, the Mexican elections were not faked, but the impartiality of these observers is discussed by the party of López Obrador, the PRD, as well as the left wing newspaper Jornada , the weekly magazine Proceso , the Réseau Voltaire and most of the people, as the demonstrations show it.
