Mantes-the-city

Mantes-the-City is a common department of the Yvelines and area Île-de-France, located at approximately 52 km in the west of Paris.
The inhabitants are called Mantevillois.
Geography
It is a medium-sized city of approximately 20.000 inhabitants (outclassed 20 to 40.000 inhabitants), located in Yvelines at the North-West of Paris, with the confluence of the the Seine and the Vaucouleurs (small affluent of left bank of the Seine). The territory of Mantes-the-City is urbanized but has of a park along its river and tops of hills raised and agricultural. It is separated from that of Mantes-the-Pretty by the railway line Paris-Mantes-Rouen and is served by the Gare of Mantes-Station, distant of a few hundred meters only of that of Mantes-the-Pretty. It is also crossed by the Autoroute of Normandy (A13), and one there finds also the two exchangers of Mantes-South and Mantes-Is. To limit the harmful effects, the highway was partially covered.
History
Mantes-the-city was the seat of a factory of the Cellophane, specialized in the manufacture of cellulose films. This factory was built in 1926 in edge of the Seine close to the farm of Chantereine. Manufacture started indeed in 1929, and stopped on June 6th, 1940 because of the German invasion. It was seriously damaged by the bombardments combined in 1944, then took again its expansion until 1976. It is the second oil crisis and the competitor material arrival which precipitated its end. The production was stopped definitively in 1985 and machines it completely destroyed in 1986.

Economy
Mantes-the-city is the seat of two factors of wind instruments of world famous: Dresser-Cramp for the Clarinet S, and Selmer for the Saxophone S.A industrial Park diversified was installed on the old site of the Cellophane.
Culture
The orchestral Whole of Mantes-the-City, or EOM, was born from the initiative of a group of musicians who created in 1885 the harmony of Mantes-the-City. The unit took its new name in 1990, under the direction of Jean-Luc Fillon, director and leader since 1984, artist poly-instrumentalist (oboe, cor anglais, double bass) and type-setter with the original course.
