Mansle
Mansle is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes. The “S” does not decide. Its inhabitants are Manslois .
Geography
It is a small Charente-native village placed at the edge of the Fleuve Charente and located at the crossing of two old Roman ways (N10 of north in the south and D737 of are in west).
History
Mansle and its area are imporants places of prehistories in Charente, one discovered several buildings there going back to this time, such as dolmens, a druidic stone, called stone which dances as well as a tumulus. Moreover, Mansle seems to be a Celtic name of origin
It is known that Mansle was a Gallo-Roman city. One found there a fanum as well as traces of other construction of this time.
During the Middle Ages, Vulgrin II Taillefer seizes the city (between 1120 and 1140) and it makes strengthened so dde to make use of it as bases operation against the seigniory of Rochefoucault.
During the second world war, the city was held by the German forces as a strategic point (Bridge on Charente)

Personalities related to the commune
- the architect Roger Erell (1907 - 1986), from his true name Roger Lelièvre, was born in Mansle. It upset the urban landscape of Brazzaville, capital of the République of Congo, 1941 with 1960.
- the academician Ivan Peychès (1906 - 1978) whose organ is installed today in the church Saint-Leger de Mansle.
- Alfred Renoleau, the famous faience manufacturer installed with Mansle during one long period. One can see certain his works with the College Alfred Renoleau.
