Manrico Ducceschi

Manrico Ducceschi , name of battle “ Pippo” (born on September 11th, 1920 with Capoue - died on August 24th, 1948 with Lucques) is a resistant Italy N during the Second world war.

Life

Born with Capoue from Fernando and Matilde Bonaccio, from Pistoia, it passes its childhood and its adolescence with Pistoia, where it attends the Forteguerri College and it obtains its baccalaureat in letters. It is registered with the university of the Letters and the Philosophy of Florence, but it will never finish its studies because it is called up for the military service.

Resistance

The September 8th 1943, at the time of the declaration of war of the Italy to the Germany, he is pupil offciier with V regiment of Alpine hunters with Tarquinia. It avoids being made prisoner and it turns over in its city where he puts himself in liaison with his former fellow students, militants of the movement " Giustizia E Libertà " of Florence, movement close to the " Started from Action ". It enters the maquis to initially take part in the Italian resistance under the pseudonym of 'Pontito then that of Pippo .

Semi September, it creates the " Brigade Rosselli " and it establishes its general headquarter in Tre Potenze. The March 16th 1944, the formation, which is independent of all political parties, takes the official name of Army of National Release - XI Patriotic Zone and acts in the zones of Garfagnana, of the valley of the Serchio, Valdinievole and the Pistoiese Mountain whereas that of Silvano Fedi takes care of the surroundings of Pistoia.

One of the principal operations is the interception with the Step of Abetone of the Japanese rear-admiral Toyo Mitunobu what made it possible to collect important documents concerning future the operations of the Pacifique.

Thanks to very the positive ratios with the allies via the secret agents parachuted in the sector, the formation will regularly receive supplies weapons and provisions by planes.

After the arrival of combined V armed in October 1944, the formation is included in the regular troops and is called " Autonomous battalion Italian Patriots Pippo". It receives uniforms and American equipment and it controls forty kilometers of face along the Gothic Ligne of Garfagnana in the Apennines Pistoiese, being valorously opposed to the German forces and several quotas of division " Italia" , " San Marco" and " Monterosa" Italian Social republic.

After the depression of the " Gothique" line; , the formation accompanies the troops allied in their advanced and with them, takes part in the release of Modena, Reggio of Emilie, Parma, Plaisance, Lodi then it enters Milan and it arrives finally to the border Suisse. After a return triumphal in Tuscan, the June 6th 1945, in Abetone, in the presence of official allied, the formation is dissolved with the military honors.

The independence of Ducceschi is not well accepted by the Brigades Garibaldi, of tendency social-Communist. At the end of the war, the resistant Joint mandator Pippo is decorated by the Allies with the American Bronze Star Medal with the military value, but it does not receive any recognition on behalf of the resistant organizations, often taken along by communist representatives, nor by the Italian State. The tension is even more important when Pippo declares that it for denouncing the abuses groups of resistant. The denunciation forever take place, his/her father finds it hung in his house of Lucques. The assumption of the suicide never convinces the close relations of Ducceschi.
