Manouba
Manouba (rear RTL منوبة) is a city of the north-western suburbs of Tunis (capital of the Tunisia) and the Chef-lieu of the governorship of the same name.
The municipality of Manouba is created under the terms of the Décret July 23rd 1942 and is considered among the oldest municipalities of Large Tunis. It has a population of 26.666 inhabitants (2004).
Manouba belonged to the residences of summer of the beys de Tunis. This is why the city shelters a whole of Palais. Its name would go back to the Antiquité, if one believes the etymology often advanced, and would come from it from the punic word meaning “agricultural market”.
It is also known, in the popular representation, because it shelters a Psychiatric hospital since July 1st 1931.
