Manou Gallo

Manou Gallo (born the August 31st 1972) is a singer originating in Divo, a locality mid-west of the Ivory Coast.

Biography

Raised by his/her grandmother, Manou is rather autonomous kind. In 1984, whereas it is 12 years old, Manou takes part in its first spectacle. It is as the first time as it leaves its birthplace. The spectacle which was assembled with other children of the small town inspires by its history: he tells the life of this small witch who receives the capacity to play of the drum. The part makes a true tobacco.

Woya becomes famous in all the West Africa. Of 1985 with 1989, the made group of many rounds to the Burkina Faso, Mali, Togo, Benign) and records four albums.

And during this time, Manou stores the experiments. When the group Woya east dissolves, the young girl follows Marcellin Yacé to Abidjan. It takes it under its wing, offers its low first to him, initiates it with the sound recordings in its studio during three years. Of 1993 with 1996, Marcellin sends it to perfect his artistic knowledge at the Panafrican village of Ki-Yi-Mbock, where it integrates the theater company, is initiated with the dance and takes part in the recording of a new disc produced by Ray Lema. In 1992, at the time of the with Abidjan, an international market MASSED the purpose of which is to present artistic creations coming from all Africa, Manou meets Michel De Bock, turn manager and lighting engineer of the group Zap Mama. They are re-examined several times at the village Ki-Yi and the power is on.

The power is on so much so that when Michel De Bock learns that Marie Daulne, leader of the Zap Mama, research a bass player for his group, it thinks directly of the young person of the Ivory Coast and makes it come in Belgium. Manou Gallo unloads on January 3rd, 1997. Marie and the other members of the group wish him welcome at Zap Mama.

For six years, Manou Gallo has been of all the rounds, traversing the world to play the music of Zap. In 1999, it joined, for some concerts, the Drums of Brazza, where it is the only girl. “ Here, in Europe, I learned the opening, the mixtures of cultures and musics ”. Based with Brussels, she likes the diversity of this métissée city. But, all at the bottom of it, Manou always have a small music in the head, arrival on line of Divo. “ When I return to the country, I find the colors of the sounds and the rates/rhythms which rocked me during all my childhood ”. It is undoubtedly what pushed it to write its own texts, mixing French, English and language dida to say the things as they come, to rise or to keep to the spirit the flame of Marcellin Yacé presents, that which carried out it up to now. These texts, it declines them on a music which lives it since always, but to which it added the influences collected throughout the way.

To give form to its music, Manou crosses a new step in 2001, by creating its own group, with friends musicians, a little as it gathered, small, his/her girlfriends and distributed the roles at the time of these concerts improvised in the courses of its birthplace. And today, in company of its group Djiboi, Manou intend well to spread on the waves the music of Divo. Its first disc, Dida , left on the IglooMondo label in 2005, followed Manou Gallo in 2007.

Manou interprets its compositions in language dida, English and French. The stamp of the voice of Manou Gallo and its words produce a very hot music, causing emotion.
