Manmohan Singh

Manmohan Singh (ਮਨਮੋਹਨਿਸੰਘ in Panjâbî, मनमोहनिसंह in Hindi, Charming Lion in French) (born with Gah, today with the Pakistan, the September 26th 1932) Prime Minister of India is and is member of the Parti the Congress.

Manmohan Singh is economist of formation and made its studies with the Nuffield College with Oxford and with the St John' S College with Cambridge like with the Université of Panjâb.

He is regarded as the architect of the reform program economic of India in the years 1990. It is under its impulse, as Minister for Finance in the government of statement Narasimha Rao (1991-1996), which was founded a program of liberalization and opening to the worldwide economy.

Manmohan Singh was elected with the Rajya Sabha (the Indian Upper House) between 1991 and 1996, as a representative of the Assam, and of 2001 to today.

Although its economic reforms were very popular in the middle-class (but much less among the nationalist poor and mediums), it lost the elections with the Lok Sabha (the Indian Lower House), in a district of Southern Delhi in 1999.

After the surprised victory of the Left the Congress to the elections of 2004, Sonia Gandhi was had a presentiment of to occupy the position of Prime Minister. But, the May 18th, it refused the station and the following day the president Abdul Kalam proposed officially the station with Singh. This last lent oath the May 22nd and became the first Sikh to occupy this station.

Manmohan Singh married in 1958 and has three girls.
