Maniac Mansion: Day off the Tentacle
Maniac Mansion: Day off the Tentacle ( Manor with Maniacs: The Day of the Tentacle ) is a graphic play of adventure left in 1993 and published by LucasArts. It was the eighth play to use the engine SCUMM. The play left at the same time on Disquette and in CD-ROM. It was conceived by Dave Grossman and Tim Schafer.
Synopsis
The history takes seat five years after Maniac Mansion .
Catastrophe! One of the two creatures of the scientist Fred Edison, the Tentacle Crimson, drinks the toxic rejections coming from the laboratory of Doctor Fred. Armed now with 2 arms, this diabolic genius is at the head put to conquer the world. Doctor Fred then tries to send Bernard and his two companions, Hoagie and Laverne, one day earlier in the past in order to prevent Pourpre from drinking the toxic rejections.
Alas, its machine to go up time weakens and transports thus Hoagie 200 years in the past where it makes the meeting (amongst other things) of Georges Washington and Benjamin Franklin, whereas Laverne is found 200 years in the future, where the tentacles dominate the men. Bernard as for him, remains in the present.
Gameplay
Bernard Bernoulli, one of the playable characters of Maniac Mansion, is now the principal character of the play. The play takes again only one handle of the azimutés characters of Maniac Mansion , but uses them with their full potential.
The player will have to sail between the three times and the three characters to free the puzzles and to advance the intrigue, thus modifying the past, the present and the future without shame. The small difficulty of this play, compared with the other sets of traditional adventures, is that the objects which each character collects can be exchanged between the times with some exceptions (via the toilets of their temporal capsule), complicating largely each enigma.

One of the notable no-claims bonus of the play is the fact that it contains the full version of the first Maniac Mansion . To play there, it is enough to use a computer present in the play, pertaining to ED Edison the Insane one, the son of the doctor.
- In 2003, LucasArts republished its greater successes of which Day off the Tentacle in a compilation. They had recourse to the emulator ScummVM - developed independently - to make function these old video games on current operating systems.
- the name of the principal hero, Bernard Bernoulli, stereotype of the awkward and brilliant geek, comes from the family of the mathematicians Bernoulli (as Edison comes from Thomas Edison).
