Manhattan-Kabul
Manhattan - Kabul is a French song written by Renaud and composed by Jean-Pierre Bucolo, that Renaud interprets in Duo with Axelle Red, in the album Boucan of hell , left in 2002. She was written shortly after the attacks of the September 11th, 2001 and the second war of Afghanistan. The song was elected " Original song of the année" with the Victories of the Music 2003 and " French-speaking song of the année" with the NRJ Music Awards 2003.
In this text, two victims of the events of 2001 sing their situation and the causes of their death. Renaud interprets a Oporto-Yankee which worked in one of the turns of the World Trade Center of New York, destroyed on September 11th, 2001. Axelle Red plays an Afghan young woman killed during the attack of the coalition carried out by the United States in its country held by the Taliban S during the autumn 2001.
Starting from the bringing together of these two anonymities living with the Antipode S one of the other, Renaud calls into question the Moslem integrism (“never the slave of the dogs”, known as of the talibans the Afghan one) and the power étatsunienne (the Oporto-Yankee speaks about “an idol with feet of clay”). In a topicality which remained marked by the attacks of September 2001 and the over-exposure of Afghanistan, country in civil war since the Soviet invasion of 1979, this song recadre matter on the anonymous individuals who are victims directly of these events.
