Manggarai (people)

The Manggarai are a Ethnicity of Indonesia living the west of the island of Flores in the province of Nusa Tenggara Eastern. In 2000, they were with the number from approximately 500.000.

Their language belongs to the sub-group of the bima-sumba of the branch Malayo-polynésien of the Langues austronésiennes.

Manggarai were prone in turn sultans of Bima in the island of Sumbawa and the kings Makassar of the south of Célèbes.
