Manfred Mann

Manfred Mann was a group of pop music of British R&B in the Sixties and Seventies.

Beginnings: 1962 - 1963

The original group formed by Manfred Mann (keyboards) and Mike Hugg in London in December 1962 is called Mann-Hugg Blues Bothers. The group is supplemented by Mike Vickers (guitar), Dave Richmond (low), and Paul Jones (voice and harmonica). The group resulting from the boom of the English blues of the beginning of the 60 ' S turns much in the clubs during the years 1962-63 and is especially pointed out by the sound of Manfred and the voice of Paul Jones. The group signs at HTV Records in March 1963 and changes its name into Manfred Mann and leaves a musical 45t jazzy " Why should we not?" in July 1963. Without much success.

The first successes: 1964 - 1965

In 1964, the emission Ready Steady Go! (of the chain of music ITV) their order new credits; it will be 5-4-3-2-1 which climbs in the 5th place of the charts. After this first success, first departure: Dave Richmond leaves the group, replaced by Tom McGuiness. Great success will come with the recovery from a title from Exciters " C Wah Diddy Diddy" who goes up in the first place of the US charts and English in 1964. In 1965, the group aligns the hits, with their own titles and of the recoveries, of Dylan in particular " With God One Our Side" and a EP leaves who will be a best seller of the year The One In the Middle EP

After the hit " Yew You Gotta Go, Go Now " , Jones announces his intention to leave the group for a career solo.

Years of changes: 1966 - 1969

Jones will remain one year moreover, but it is Vickers which from goes away, replaced by Jack Bruce of the John Mayall 'S Bluesbreakers. Finally it will be Mike d' Abo which will replace Jones while Jack Bruce from there will be formed on its side Cream. It will be replaced by Klaus Voormann while Mc Guiness endorses the role of guitarist.

Lastly, the group signs at Fontana Records…

With Abo, the group is directed towards pop acoustics " dylanesque" (social comments, surrealism in the texts…) Their first individual at Fontana is precisely a resumption of Dylan " Just Like has Woman" and their larger hit arrives with another resumption of same, " Quinn The Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) ". Between these two successes, " Ha! Ha! Said The Clown" conquered the French public by its enjoué rate/rhythm.

However, the group wearies itself to be considered simply as a machine to align theindividual ones (their the last two albums were not very well sold) and bursts in 1969.

The episode Chapter III

Manfred Mann turns then to the writing of jingles advertizing while continuing a career in the form of a group… of jazz experimental rock'n'roll with Mike Hugg. A beautiful thumb your nose at the individual years the gauged radio operator and an unquestionable distress at the fans. The " plaisanterie" last only two years, places then at Manfred Mann' S Earth Band in 1971.

Manfred Mann' S Earth Band

The new group takes, again, a direction different from the format 3 minutes pop and wise to direct itself towards a combination of progressive rock'n'roll and melodies imparables.

We are into full in the Années 1970 and the topics with space, of ecology will be recurring topics from now on.
