Mandriva (in the past Mandrakesoft ) is a French company editor of the distribution GNU/Linux Mandriva Linux , of which one of the principles is the ease of use.

The Mandriva company is the result of the amalgamation of 4 other companies: Mandrakesoft in France, Conectiva with the Brazil, Edge IT in France and Lycoris with the the United States.

History

None the founding members of the company is there yet in activity. Its Chairman and managing director is François Bancilhon.

Litigations

In the Lawsuit which opposes it since beginning 2000 with Hearst Holdings and King Features Syndicate Inc, owners of the mark Mandrake the Magician , MandrakeSoft was condemned in first authority by the Court of Bankruptcy of Paris on December 12th, 2003 not to use more the mark Mandrake in France. The company made call this decision. It used then the Mandrakesoft marks and Mandrakelinux, before taking the name of Mandriva after its fusion with Conectiva. July 18th, 2005, an out-of-court settlement intervened between the two parts, putting an end to the litigation, for an amount not revealed.
