Mandibulates
see also: Etymology of Mandibulates
The mandibulates (or antennates ) are Arthropode S whose head carries characteristic appendices, often very chitinized, the Mandibule S adapted to various modes. They differ from the Chélicère S and Pédipalpe S of the Chélicérates. The Monophylie of this taxon is also based on the characteristics of ARN ribosomial.
They were classically divided into Uniramé S (Insecte S and Myriapode S) and Biramé S (Crustacé S). This distinction does not seem Monophylétique with the sight of the genetic analyzes which bring closer the insects to shellfish. The characters shared between the Myriapode S and the insects are now interpreted like convergences related to the adaptation to the terrestrial environment.
