Manchester United Football Club is a club of Football English founded in 1878 currently evolving/moving in First League.
It is one of the most popular clubs in the world, which gained the championship of England to sixteen recoveries (only Liverpool FC does better with 18 titles). The club also gained eleven Coupes of England (record), two Coupes of the English League, two Ligues of the Champions, a Coupe of the Cuts, a intercontinental Coupe and a Supercoupe of the UEFA.
Its current trainer is Sir Alex Ferguson (posts some since 1986) and the captain of the team is Gary Neville.
History
The beginnings (1878-1945)
The club is founded in 1878 under the name of “Heath Newton”. The club is made a name locally and wants to climb in league. It will be accepted only with the third demand for 1892 but the training is difficult with a descent in 1898 in the second division whereas Manchester City gains its first title. After a few difficult years, the club gains finally the financial capacity thanks to a brewer, John Henry Davies, to progress with new players and a new direction. The decision to change name is then made: Manchester Central is proposed thus that Manchester Celtic, the two proposals were rejected for the name which will become famous with the four corners of the world, in 1902, Newton Heath becomes officially Manchester United Football Club . Moreover, one gives up the green and the gold of Heath Newton for the red and the white.
Ernest Mangnall involves the team of the time whose party Turnbull, Bannister, Burgess and Charlie Roberts made. As of 1908, DRIVEN obtains its first championship and gains the F Cup in 1909, by beating Bristol City 1-0. It was one period ostentation for the supporters which were entitled to a new stage. The club settles with Old Trafford (called today the Theater of the Dreams ).
The Years 1920 and the Années 1930 were difficult decades for DRIVEN. The club goes down in D2 in 1922, fight to be maintained there stabilizing itself in the soft belly of this championship of D2. In 1927, it is a mini-crisis, the fans threaten to boycott the club. To face the crisis, the possibility of selling the stage is even being studied, and the same year, the arrival of a businessman James Gibson sponges the debt of 2.000£ and takes the control of the club.
But the sporting miracle does not occur in spite of the recruiting of a new trainer, Scott Duncan and in 1934 the club plunges towards the D3. Back with the wall, DRIVEN faces Millwall FC the May 5th whereas other side, Manchester City, the rival club of always qualifies for the final of F Cup thanks to some Matt Busby.
DRIVEN makes the elevator and ends up going up in the First division in 1939, at the moment when the war starts. During the war, Old Trafford is bombarded and is in ruins.
Years of Busby (1945-1969)
In 1945, Matt Busby arrives. He was innovator in his strategy by deciding recruitment of new players and while directing the drives and surrounded itself by an assistant: Jimmy Murphy. The first years of Busby are a success by reaching the place of vice-champion and the victory in F Cup in 1948, this thanks to players of the corner: Stan Pearson, Rowley Jack and Charlie Mitten and Allenby Chilton.Charlie Mitten leaves in Colombia, but its former fellow-members gain the championship in 1952. However, Busby understands that the team needs more than experiment and it adopts for youth. This policy takes time to produce positive tests, but they regain the championship in 1956 with a team where the average age is 22 years, marking 103 goals, a record of Manchester United. This success of the young people is symbolized by Duncan Edwards which only makes its beginnings at 16 years. The following season, 1956-57, the club gains the championship again, but finally loses Cut of England against Aston Villa. Manchester United becomes also the first English club to take part in the cut of Europe of the clubs champions, against the will of the federation of England, and loses against the Real Madrid in semi-final. Previously, DRIVEN its broader European score realizes by beating the champions of Belgium RSC Anderlecht 10-0 with Maine Road.
The following year, the club knows one of the greatest tragedies of its history. The February 6th 1958, eight players are killed in the air crash landing of Munich: Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Jones Mark, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Liam " Billy" Whelan - and fifteen others will be wounded: Walters Crickmer, Bert Whalley and Tom Curry, trainers, are among them. The goalkeeper Harry Gregg will save Bobby Charlton and Dennis Purple by trailing them of the door of the plane, Johnny Berry also survives the accident, but it will take its sporting retirement because of its wounds and Matt Busby will spend two months to the hospital.
The same year, Manchester United plays finally of the Cut of England, but loses against Bolton Wanderers. The UEFA gives to Manchester United the opportunity to play European Coupe the following season, but the English federation refuses. DRIVEN vice-champion finishes the following season with a team decimated by the disaster in Munich.
Busby rebuilds its team during the Années 1960, recurtant of new players like Denis Law or Pat Crerand, and by trusting new young people of which most famous is George Best. DRIVEN cut of England in 1963 gains, but finishes in nineteenth in championship. However, in 1964 the club finds the top of the classification by atteigant to it second place and gains it in 1965 and 1967. DRIVEN the cut of Europe of the clubs champions in 1968 gains, beating SSL Benfica of Eusebio 4-1 finally after prolongaton, becoming the first club English to gain this competition. This team contains three winners of the balloon of gold: Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best. Matt Busby takes its retirement in 1969 and Wilf McGuinness replaces it.
Years without championship (1969-1986)
DRIVEN is thus rebuilt after the departure of Matt Busby and with Wilf McGuinness in 1969-70, by finishing eighth in championship, and after a bad departure in 1970-71, McGuinness is unloaded of the team first and deals with the reserve and Busby returns for a six month old measuring rod. The result improve under Busby, but it leaves during the summer 1971. Consequently, DRIVEN loses some of its best players, like Nobby Stiles and Pat Crerand.Jock Stein, which had led Celtic to the championship victory of Europe, accepts the work of trainer in Manchester, but it will be returned and Frank O' Farrel replaces it. However, like McGuinness, O' Farrel will remain there 18 months, the only difference between the two is the reaction of O' Farrel by buying new players, like Martin Buchan of paying Aberdeen £125,000. In 1972, Tommy Docherty (called " the Doc") becomes trainer and safe DRIVEN relegation this season but will not be able to escape from it in 1974 after the departures from Best, Law and Charlton. Denis Law settles in Manchester City in summer 1973, and marks a goal which will result in to relegate its old DRIVEN club. The players like Lou Macari, Stuart Houston and Brian Greenhoff try to replace Best, Law and Charlton without success.
The team goes up immediately with the young person Steve Coppell who arrives of Tranmere Rovers and with him the club reaches the final of the cut of England in 1976 (lost against Southampton FC). The club reaches again the final in 1977 and beats Liverpool FC. In spite of this success and its popularity near the fans, Docherty is returned just after the final because of a connection with the woman of the physiotherapist.
Dave Sexton replaces Docherty in 1977 and sets up a defensive, unpopular play because of the past of the club which preached under Docherty and Busby an offensive play. The major transfers are Joe Jordan, Gordon McQueen, Gary Bailey and Ray Wilkins, but DRIVEN remains in the soft belly of the championship and Sexton is returned in 1981, although it gains his last seven matches.
Ron Atkinson arrives at the club and immédiament beats the record of the British transfers by buying Bryan Robson, which is supposed to be the best medium since Duncan Edwards. The team of Atkinson contains also Jesper Olsen, Paul McGrath and Gordon Strachan and of the players trained with the club Norman Whiteside and Mark Hughes. DRIVEN the cut of England in 1985 gains, after having lost it finally in 1983, and it becomes favorite to gain the championship in 1986 after ten victories at the time of the ten first matches, DRIVEN will finish only fourth. After a bad departure the following year, Atkinson is returned before the end of the season.
The era of Alex Ferguson, pre-triplet (1986-1998)
Alex Ferguson arrives of Aberdeen FC to replace Atkinson and leads the club to the eleventh place. The following season in 1988, DRIVEN finishes vice-champion, with Brian McClair which becomes the first player since George Best to mark 20 goals in championship in one season. However, DRIVEN is with the sorrow the two following seasons. Alex Ferguson is about to be to return in 1990 but will be saved by a goal of Robins Mark giving to DRIVEN a victory to the third tower of the cut of England against Nottingham Forest. The team continues to gain and gains the cut against Crystal De luxe hotel.
DRIVEN the Coupe of Europe of the Winners of Cut in 1991 gains, beating the champions of Spain FC Barcelona finally. In lack of form the following season, the club finishes in the second place of the championship behind Leeds United. In 1991, the club is put out of purse for a value of £47 million.
The arrival of Eric Cantona in November 1992 gives again hope with the club, as well as the experiment of Gary Pallister, Denis Irwin and Paul Ince and finally of the young people trained with the club like Ryan Giggs. Manchester United gains the championship in 1993 for the first time since 1967, and carries out doubled the cut-championship for the first time the following season, helped by its new player Roy Keane, a given medium from Nottingham Forest and which will become captain. On the other hand the same year, the club plunges in depresses after the death of its legendary trainer and chair Matt Busby, which dies the January 20th 1994.
In 1995, Cantona is banished grounds for eight month after a kick on a supportor of Hook De luxe hotel, Matthew Simmons, which had addressed racial insults to Cantona during a match with Selhurst Park. DRIVEN cut of England against Everton FC loses finally. Ferguson created a controversy by selling its key players and by replacing them by young people, like David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes, but these new astonishes much by experts and DRIVEN the double in 1996 carries out. It was the first time that an English club realizes doubled twice.
The club gains the championship in 1997, and Eric Cantona advertisement his withdrawal of football at 30 years only. In 1998, DRIVEN finishes second behind Arsenal FC.

The season of 1999 for Manchester United was the season most successful in the history of English football where it becomes the first and only club to carry out the Triplet - championship, cut of England and Ligue of the Champions the same year. Manchester United gains the championship in the last match by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, while Arsenal gains 1-0 against Aston Villa. Finally of the cut of England, DRIVEN beats Newcastle United 2-0 with the goals of Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes. Lastly, finally of the League of the Champions, the club beats the Bayern Munich in a match where quickly DRIVEN 1-0 will be carried out before, during the stops of play at the end of the match, does not manage to equalize and to take the advantage in hardly two minutes. Ferguson adopts a more defensive tactic in 2002 to regain the league of the Champions, but that compromises their chances on the national plan and finishes in the third place. After a new victory in championship in 2003, David Beckham is sold after an argument in the cloakrooms with Ferguson. In 2004, Rio Ferdinand after having avoided a control anti-doping is banished for eight month. United however gains the cut of England by beating Millwall 3-0. The support
Before the Second world war arrives, little of supporters travelled for the matches outside because of time, the cost and the logistic problems, as the lack of cars among the population, especially among the workmen. Manchester City and Manchester United would play their matches the alternated weekends, much of Mancuniens would look United one week and City the following one, but after the war, the competition between the two clubs muscla. In 1956, United gains the championship with the highest average of spectators in England. After the disaster of Munich in 1958, more people would start to support DRIVEN. Since fifty years DRIVEN with the highest average of spectators high every year, even against a team of D2.
In the Years 1990, concerns increase about the possibility of repurchase of the club. The group of supporteurs IMUSA (Independent Manchester United Supporters' Association) very active and is opposed to the repurchase of the club by Rupert Murdoch in 1998. Another lobby, “Shareholders United Against Murdoch” (which would become “Shareholders United” and then “Manchester United Supporters' Trust”) is founded to encourage the supporteurs to buy shares of the club to be expressed and prevent the purchase of the club. However, that fails when Malcolm Glazer buys the club. Many supporteurs are furious and founds a new club which is called “F.C. United off Manchester”.
In spite of this scandal, the number of people which goes to the matches continues to increase, and the performances of the team relight the enthusiasm of the supporteurs.
