Manassès de Hierges
Manassès de Hierges , (born v. 1110 - died the January 8th 1177) was a lord of the Ardennes 12th century, which left to fight in Holy Land and was, constable Royaume of Jerusalem of 1144 with 1152. It was wire of Héribrand II, lord of Hierges and Hodierne de Réthel.
It is quoted for the first time in 1127: since Godefroy de Bouillon had sold Bouillon with the bishop of Liege, a litigation opposed this last to the archbishop of Rheims in connection with part of the ground of Bubble which depended on Rheims. This litigation was solved only in 1127, and the bishop of Liege sent eight of his vassal, of which Manassès, to pay the homage to the archbishop of Rheims.
Called by his cousin Mélisende of Jerusalem, it crossed in 1141 and arrived shortly after in the Royaume of Jerusalem. In 1143 died the king Foulques of Anjou, Mélisende became regent of the kingdom and named Manessès constable of the kingdom.
Of a first wife, whose name remains still unknown, it had had:
- Fadie, married to Guillaume II Embriaco († 1157), lord of Gibelet
- Hodierne, married to a lord of Grandgerin.
Widower of this first wife, it remaria in 1151 with Helvis de Ramla, widow of Balian d' Ibelin. The booklet of the CRDP of Rheims ensures that Helvis was too old to be again mother, whereas the Lignages of Overseas allot two girls to him:
- Helvis, married to Anceau de Brie
- Ysabeau, woman of Hugues de Mimars
The king growing Baudouin III of Jerusalem, a conflict opposed it to his mother. Baudouin seized the power in 1152 and Manassès, combined with Mélisende, had to give up its grounds and its loads and to turn over to Europe. It Maria for the third time, marrying Alix de Chiny, girl of Albert I {{er}}, count de Chiny and of Agnes of Bar, which gave him:
- Héribrand III, lord of Hierges
- Henri,
- Albert II of Hierges which was bishop of Verdun of 1187 with 1208,
- Louis abbot of Saint-Valve of Verdun,
- Gautier, knight
In 1176, it fell seriously sick, and was made monk with Brogne. It died there the January 8th 1177.
