Summary

The Management by objectives (DPO), as its name indicates it, consists for the direction of a company or any other institution to be fixed at the various units of the organization, or has to negotiate with them, of the objective quantitative or qualitative to reach in a given term (for example annually).

The measurement of these performances supposes the use of a countable and statistical system adequate making it possible to leave in synthesis a Information system management. In addition the comparison with the comparable companies most powerful (Benchmarking) is useful in the fixing of the objectives.

History

The DPO was proposed by an American consultant, Peter Drucker, in 1958, to make it possible each one to widen its sights instead of “making the minimum to escape from the difficulty”. Vast ambition, behind which the question arises of knowing how to establish a bond between the life of the company and the effective performance.

Evolution

  • With the saga of the quality of the Years 1970, the concept evolves/moves: one more readily speaks from now on about “ DPPO ” (Participative Direction By Objectives), but the objective “to work so as to it intelligent and collective time” remains of topicality.
