Manólis Kalomíris
Manólis Kalomíris (in), born with Smyrna in 1883 and died in Athens in 1962, is a Greek type-setter.
Formation
Kalomíris, which had studied the piano with Constantinople (1899) near Sophia Spanoudi, went to study the piano and the composition with the Academy of Vienna (1901 - 1906), near W. Rauch, A. Sturm, H. Gradener and E. Mantitsevsky.
Career
Kalomíris, very influenced by the poet Kostís Palamás, started to compose as of 1902, but, after having taught the music with Kharkov in Russia (1906), it is truly starting from 1908 that it imposed his music in the concerts on Athens. Consequently, Kalomíris did not cease playing a big role in the Greek musical life and is regarded as the figurehead of the erudite Greek music of first half of the 20th century. In addition to its labor of type-setter, it took part in the foundation of musical institutions of foreground in Greece. After teachhaving first of all taught with the Conservatory of Athens (1911 - 1919), it thus founded and directed the Hellenic Conservatoire of Athens (1919) and the Conservatoire National of Athens (1926). It is also one of the founding members of the Union of the Greek Type-setters (1931). Kalomíris was named with the Académie of Athens in 1945.
Family
Manólis Kalomíris is the father of the pianist Krino Kalomiri, who married in 1940 with the oldest son of the Greek professional singer Spéranza Calo-Séailles installed in France. Hara Kalomiri, girl of Krino Kalomiri is the current director of the Conservatoire National of Athens rested by its grandfather.
