Mamenchisaurus
Mamenchisaurus was a Dinosaure Quadrupède Herbivore, known for its very long neck. The majority of the spécimnes lived there is between 145 and 150 million annés during the age Tithonien of the Jurassic . The mamenchisaurus is a close cousin of the Diplodocus.
Discovered
The first Mamenchisaurus was discovered in 1952 during the construction of a highway in the Sichuan, China. The fossil of a partial skeleton was studied and named in 1954 by the Chinese paleontologist, the professor D.C. Young.
The first specimen discovered was 22 meters long, of which the half for the neck, which makes of it the animal with the longest neck of all times. Nineteen vertebrae were discovered (another record), with remainders of stems. It is thought that certain adults were to measure up to 26 m length.
In 1987, various species of Mamenchisaurus were updated (Mr. hochuanensis) with a neck of more than 15 Mr.
Etymology
Mamenchisaurus means “Mamenchi Lizard”, of the Chinese Pinyin mǎ (马 “horse”) and mén (门 “carries”), with chi which is a transliteration of xī (溪 “running” gold “brook”), combined with the suffix - saurus (of the old Greek sauros meaning “lizard”).
It was envisaged to name this reptile according to the place where it was discovered - a site of construction close to Mǎmíngxī (马鸣溪), ferry crossing the river Jinsha (金沙江, the principal affluent of the Yangtze), beside Yibin (宜宾) in the province Sichuan. However, after a fault of stressing of Young, the name of Mǎ míng xī (马鸣溪 “Brook of the neighing horse”) was transformed into Mǎ mén xī (马门溪 “Brook of the horse carries”).
The fact that the first fossil of Mamenchisaurus was excavated of a site of construction, made that Young named the first species Mamenchisaurus constructus .
