Mambo (voodoo)
The mambo or manbo is the name of the priestess in the religion Vaudou with Haiti. It has as a role to interpret the wills of the Lwa S.
Its male equivalent is the Houngan or hougan. It is them which trace the Vévé S and guide the ceremonies. The badge to be able to them is the asson, and they officiate in the Oufo.
The vocation of the mambo often comes from the family, but can also occur with the favor of a Rêve or a Maladie which reveals its mission to him. At the time of sound Initiation, which lasts one week, the mambo or the houngan must swear to respect the capacities of the lwas, and a lwa remains with life on the head of the priestess or the priest to protect it.
