Malonne (in Walloon  : ) is a section of the Belgian city of Namur located in Walloon region in the Province of Namur.

It was a commune with whole share before the fusion of the communes of 1977.

It is there that was buried which was going to become Saint Mutien-Marie, and which worked a long time with the College held by the " Brothers of the Chrétiennes" Schools; , order to which it belonged.

History

The Fort of Malonne was used with defense as Namur in 1914 and in 1940, where its rendering took place only the May 21st, is one week a little more after the withdrawal of the infantrymen of the NFP (fortified position of Namur) because of the crossing of the Meuse in the south, Houx and Leffe. The historian Jacques Vandenbroucke written: “the combat delivered by the Namurian forts since the May 15th 1940 is completely incredible taking into account the conditions of the ground”, by “Walloons resulting from a very regional recruitment”. He recalls that Le Figaro , inter alia, greeted this resistance, but complains that in Namur, nothing came to evoke it. Let us note that of 1914, Liege and Namur, had made it possible to slow down considerably the advance of the German army , as underline it two historians Irish (John Horne and Alan Kramer) in their book on the German Atrocités.

Education

Malonne is the seat of several schools, in particular that of the Institute Saint-Berthuin (free Enseignement), of a elementary school of the French Communauté and of a specialized institute. The HENaC also has there one of its three establishments.
