Geography

History

The name of the commune comes from “evil” (bad) and “dead”. The area invaded before by the Marais reduced this agricultural area to the disease and the sterility of the grounds. The marshes are drained.

In April 1545, a persecution is organized counter the Vaudois. The troops of Paulin of the Guard, under the direction of the first president of the Parliament of Aix, Jean Maynier, lord of Oppède, plunder the village. The grounds are confiscated, the massacred men, the women violated before being killed.
