Malestroit
Malestroit is a common French, located in the department of the Morbihan and the area Brittany. The Breton nants call it Malastreg .
Chief town of canton, it is crossed by the Canal from Nantes to Brest and by the Oust river which are confused at this place.
Etymology
The name appears in 1131 in the form “Malestricum”. The name is of dialectal origin (Langue of oil) and means bad procession . (" the baguenaudes Malestroyennes" - Jean-Paul Bourban)-->
Blazon
In 1451, the seigniory of Malestroit is set up in baronnie and becomes the ninth baronnie of Brittany. The blazon loses one besant (old currency of Byzance whose families which had taken part in the crusades decorated their blazon) and is described in the following way: Of mouths (red) with nine besants from gold 3,3 and 3 and crowned of three turns (" Baguenaudes Malestroyennes" - Jean-Paul Bourban)
Currency
The currency is entered with the pediment of the Town hall “ Quae numerat nummos not is male stricta domus ” which can be translated by “the field which counts (its besans) is not Malestroit” or “rich House of ecus never squeaks”. (" Baguenaudes Malestroyennes" - Jean-Paul Bourban)
Geography
History
One traditionally goes back the foundation to Malestroit with 987 by monks who were installed on banks of Oust. A truce is signed there the January 19th 1343, during the First war of succession of Brittany. In 1987 of the festivities commemorate the millenium of the Breton city.

Demography
Places and monuments
- Saint-Gilles Church of the 11th century, partly destroyed the September 10th 1592. All the northern part of the building was added during the rebuilding, as well as animalist statues (ox, lion, eagle).
- Ruins of the church of the Madeleine on the road of Ploermel, actively decorated for the occasions by its association with the inhabitants and friends with the district with the Madeleine.
