Geography

The city is located on the island of Male of a surface of 1,5 km ² in the Atoll of Male in the south of the Archipel of the Maldives. Male has been for 800 years the center of the Maldives. Recently the population of the island increased so much that one had to increase it artificially to satisfy the increasing demand. Today more than one third of the surface of the island was gained on the Indian Ocean. The island densément is densément urbanized, the city taking the essence of the surface of the island.

Transport

A base of Seaplane S as well as a port are located on the island. The international Aéroport of Male is located on the neighbouring island of Hulule. Many projects of extension on the sea made it possible to increase the port. Male is the center commercial of the Coconut, of the Fiber of coconut, the Coprah, and the Coquillage S of cowry.
