Makis Solomos

Makis Solomos is a musicologist specialized in the Modern music and particularly in the work of Iannis Xenakis of which it is one of most important specialists the. It is also one of the specialists in the thought of Adorno. It published many articles and works and takes part regularly in meetings and conferences. It also created a review in 2005 " Filigranes" which aims at widening the fields of musicology.

History

Makis Solomos was born in 1962 in Athens. He lives in Paris since 1980. He studied the composition with Yoshihisa Taira and Sergio Ortega and then studied musicology at the university bets 4. He is currently teaching researcher at the university Paul Valery (Montpellier 3) and member junior of the academic institute of France.

Fields of research

Makis Solomos tries in its writings to marry the approaches analytical, historical and hermeneutics. In addition to its many writings on the work of Xenakis, its research goes on various aspects of the recent musics (Webern, Varese, Boulez, Criton, Vaggione, Di Scippio, the spectral music, the Electronic music, the popular Musique, and in particular the questions of an esthetic nature from the point of view very often inspired for the philosophical thought of Adorno. Defender of a radical modernistic esthetic approach of the modern music, it particularly criticizes preserving esthetics in particular neo-classic and post-modernistic. There remains relatively distant esthetics known as “modernistic moderate”.

It also positions against the historicism, i.e. a linear reading of the history of the music which consists in considering the evolution of esthetics only in one uniform direction, while being pressed only on the stakes which the great names of the history (the " constitute; vainqueurs" to take again the term of Solomos). It defends the idea according to which the musical evolution through the history would be on the contrary a complex and multiform movement of various designs and esthetics.
