Makaton is the name d´un system of Communication which uses at the same time a gestural Vocabulaire as well as Symbole S graphs.

Makaton is the property of the company MVDP ( Makaton Vocabulary Development Project ) which supervises the Copyright on Makaton and into restricted l utilization with the authorized and laid off educational programs.

Use

This language is used by and with people having difficulties of communicating or d´apprentissage language (such as the people having problems d´ articulation or IMC), but also the people suffering from the Syndrome of Down or d´ Autisme.

The communication with Makaton uses the language spoken (lorsqu´il is possible) all in signing the words most important. The language of the signs used is local, although the general Grammaire follows that of the language spoken rather than that about the sign language.

History

Makaton is developed with the beginning of the Années 1970 with the the United Kingdom to communicate with the patients d´un Hôpital. The name of the method comes from the names of the three creators, Margaret Walker, Kathy Johnston and Tony Cornforth.
