Maka Bana
is a Board game created by François Haffner in 2003 and published by Tilsit.
From 3 to 5 players clash there to become the best property developer. An alternative makes it possible to play two players.
General principle
The goal is, by building paillottes, to become majority on the most beaches possible and to gather its constructions to mark more points. One can try to guess where the adversaries want to build and try to prevent them. One can also steal a paillotte to an adversary and repaint it with his own color.
Rules of the game
Material
Each player receives an identical material: 13 charts, 10 straw huts, 1 Tiki. The plan of play represents the island of Maka Bana with 4 beaches, 13 sectors and 39 sites. At the beginning, the island is virgin of any construction.
Unfolding
With each turn of play, the players make the following actions:- They select in their play the 3 charts indicating where they wish to build.
- They pose the 3 selected charts hidden side in front of them.
- They turn over simultaneously each one the first chart of their project.
- In the order of the table, each one can pose a tiki to try to thwart the unfavourable plans.
- In the order of the table, each one built when it can it.
- One checks that the part is not finished or about to be it.
- One changes first player, one takes again his tiki and its charts and it set out again for a turn.
It is also possible to repaint with its color an unfavourable straw hut, according to a special procedure, by using one of the two charts of painting provided at the beginning of part to each player.
End of part and winner
Two possibilities of end:- When a player builds his last straw hut, the part stops and the points are counted.
- If not, when a beach is complete that it is with straw huts or tikis, one still plays a turn then one proceeds to the final calculation.
A majority player on a beach marks 4 points. Each straw hut pays:
- 1 point if it is insulated,
- 2 points if it is the second of a group,
- 3 points if it is the third of a group, or more.
Anecdote
In the beginning, the general topic of the play was the construction and the fire of straw huts in Corsica. This topic, by referring to the Business of the straw huts, at the same time politically incorrect and free-was very centered. This is why the island of the play was moved in the peaceful one, and the players became property developers.
