Major general
Major general is, in the French Army , a military Grade, higher than Brigadier general. It constitutes of right the top of the military ranks. Nevertheless, since 1936, of the major generals can take “row and name” of General Lieutenant-general of army or , with responsibilities and privileges higher.
A major general, if it is affected on the ground, orders a division, unit made up of several brigades. Its badge is made up of three stars.
Leclerc division or the Second Division armor-plated of the General Leclerc (or Second dB) was one of the most known divisions of the French Army. It is it which released Paris in 1944 (see Libération of Paris). Following the professionalisation of the armies, it became the second armor-plated brigade.
