Maitron ” is the name of use of a monumental work directed (until its death in 1987) by the historian Jean Maitron then by his successor Claude Pennetier.

Presentation

“Maitron” is a whole of biographical dictionaries of the labor movement which one can divide into four great parts:
  • the biographical Dictionary of the labor movement French ( DBMOF ):
Together of 43 volumes published of 1964 to 1993 to which is added a volume additional (volume 44) published in 1997 as well as a cédérom showing and enriching 44 volumes (either 110.000 biographies), left in 1997.
  • the biographical Dictionnaire the international labor movement ( DBMOI ):
International extension of Maitron to date cash 9 volumes (latest to date, published in January 2007, devoted to Algeria).
  • biographical Dictionaries sets of themes of the French labor movement:
Two volumes were already published, the first on the gasones in 1993, the second on the railwaymen in 2003.
  • the biographical Dictionnaire, labor movement, social movement ( DBMOMS ):
It is about the prolongation of the DBMOF over the period 1940-1968. The unit will count 12 volumes (accompanied each one by a cédérom taking again and supplementing the paper medium substantially). The first two volumes were published in 2006.

Association of the friends of Maitron

The Association of the friends of Maitron is an association law 1901 being given for goal to develop Maitron, name commonly indicating the work initiated by the historian Jean Maitron, which gathers in particular the biographical Dictionnaire of the labor movement French , the biographical Dictionnaire of the international labor movement and the biographical Dictionnaire, labor movement, social movement .

The Association of the friends of Maitron is in particular at the origin of the exposure “Faces of the labor movement”. This association, after being chaired a long time by the historian Madeleine Rebérioux, is currently chaired by the historian Antoine Prost.
