Maitland

Maitland (: 62596 inhabitants) is a city (" city") of the low part of the Valley Hunter in News-Wales-of-South. She is regarded as belonging to the suburbs of Newcastle.

She is located at approximately 200 km in the north of Sydney and at 30km in the North-West of Newcastle on the Hunter river.

She is regularly subjected to very serious floods of the river and this in spite of the regular reinforcement of the dams which protect the city. Whereas the river can be dry in period of extreme dryness, it can cause very large damage. An alarm requiring the evacuation of the city was launched on June 10th, 2007, the river having to reach a coast of 11.4 m and to pass over the dams what did not occur. But this rising made all the same 9 died.
