The house of Radio France , also called the house of the Radio or the round House , is a building designed by the architect Henry Bernard to accommodate French public radio-television and inaugurated in 1963. It consists of a crown of 500 m circumference, tower a 68 m height in its center. It accommodates 1000 offices and 61 studios of recording. It is located quay of the President-Kennedy, in the 16 {{E}} district of Paris.

It is since 1975 the seat of Radio France.

History

The construction of a building for the services of radio-television is decided in the Années 1950. The State acquires in 1952 the ground of the 16 {{E}} district of Paris in edge of the Seine, where was located before a gas works, unused in 1928, then a stage. The plans are drawn up by the architect Henry Bernard. The house of the Radio is inaugurated on December 14th, 1963 by Charles de Gaulle, president of the French Republic, in the presence of André Malraux, minister of state in charge of the cultural Affairs.

The house is successively the seat of the French Broadcasting-television (rtf) of December 1963 to June 27th, 1964, then of the Office of broadcasting French television until December 31st, 1974. It then shelters the Directorate, the Departments and the studios of radio of the Office, like some auditoriums often used like studios of television.

At the time of the bursting of the ORTF on January 1st, 1975, it is allotted to Radio France and takes the name of “house of Radio France”.

Structure and equipment

The building consists of a crown of 500 m circumference with a 68 m height tower in its center. Its very particular form inspired the successive Logotype S of Radio France.

In addition to the central services of Radio France and the services and studios of several of its stations, the house accommodates a museum devoted to the Radiodiffusion, the Télévision and the techniques of recording of the sound, as well as a symphonic concert hall, the Olivier-Messiaen room, and a theater.

Since its construction, its: 100000 m ² profit from a 600 depth m drilling, enabling him to heat thanks to the geothermal energy. The water extracted the basin of the Albien at a temperature of 27°C feeds the whole of the heating system. Water, before being rejected with 7°C in the public sewers, is used for the food of the system of air-conditioning of the large studios of radio and television located in the “small crown” of the building.
