Maisel synagog

The synagog Maisel is a Synagog Néo-gothique of Prague, going back to 1590 - 1592 and rebuilt in 1893 - 1905. Located in old the Jewish Ghetto of the city, Josefov, it shelters the first part of one traditional exposition to the history of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravie (beginnings of the settlement - > beginnings of the emancipation).

History

The Maisel synagog was built between 1590 and 1592 by the Mayor of the Jewish District, Mordechai Maisel, which financed the extensive rebuilding of the ghetto during the Renaissance. The manufacturers of this synagog were Josef Wahl and Juda Goldsmied de Herz.

In 1689, the original building was seriously damaged in a fire and was then renovated in the style Baroque.

Later, it was considerably rebuilt in a style Néo-gothique by professor A. Grott in 1893 - 1905. All that remained intact original layout Renaissance was the plan of the tripartite central hall with the upper floor of the women.

Exposure

The first part of one traditional exposition to the history of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravie since the beginnings of the settlement until the beginnings of the emancipation is currently held in the Synagog Maisel, on the initiative of the Jewish Museum.
