Mainxe

Mainxe is a common French, located in the department of the Charente and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Its inhabitants is Mainxois.

Geography

Located between Jarnac at north and Segonzac at the south, its territory is located in Grande Champagne, first vintage of cognac.

It is crossed of west in is on its southern part by the Way Boisné, portion of the Roman Voie driving of Saintes to Périgueux (VR 28).

Its economy is mainly centered on agriculture (mainly the Vigne for the cognac), the Distillation, the ageing of brandies, the cooperage.

History

The name of Mainxe comes from a Latin name which wants to say relay .

This village is established in edge of the Roman Voie VR28, it was also a halt for the pilgrims on the way of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

  • Saint-Maurice Church: old diocese of Holy, this church was almost entirely rebuilt 1858 with 1862, as well as a vault, raised in the south of the nave, with the birth of the chorus. Its nave and its rectangular chorus form three spans, arched warheads. Two windows open in each span of the nave, two in the chorus, with mullions and networks flamboyants.
