Maintenance and restoration of glass

Glass can crystallize and become more or less opaque to see Pulvérulent.

  • It is a defect of composition unresolved.
Glasses of excavation can be made iridescent in contact with the substances present in the ground.
  • One preserves them such as they are.
  • In theory the corrosion of glass is related to the presence of the H+ ions in H2O. Consequently one can slow down deterioration by preserving glass at dryness.
Deposits or chemical weatherings can modify its surface.
  • Of the mechanical or chemical solutions exists, that it would be necessary to find.
The glares could sometimes be eliminated by a recuts.

Glasses support one in general soaped light. Attention however with gildings which it is not too much not to better rub.

The cracks are unresolved and joinings are generally visible because of a difference of Index of refraction. The adhesives Cyanoacrylate S and the Silicone S give sometimes good performances but one prefers to them epoxy adhesives for their greater stability. Formerly, one used especially the Baume of Canada.

Contrary to a rather current generally accepted idea, solid glass does not run out rather quickly so that is observable, even on a historical time scale.
